Compact & Repair Database - Corrupt Access Database Recovery
To ensure optimal performance, you should regularly compact and repair Microsoft Access files. If you're using or working with a large access Database and need to compact and repair the database whenever you are exiting from the program. To prevent corruption of Access database (.mdb) files follow the simple steps below:
For Current Access Database:
- Using a shared MS Access database located on a server, make sure that no one else has it open while compacting.
- Point to Database utilities on the tools menu and click Compact and Repair database.
For Access Database that is not open:
- Firstly, ensure that the Access Database is not in use/open, if you are compacting a shared Access database that is located on a server.
- Point to Database utilities on the tools menu and click Compact and Repair database.
- Specify the Access file you want to compact for compacting from the dialog box in the database and then click Compact.
- Also specify a name, drive, and folder for the compacted Access file into the compact dialog box.
- Finally, save it.
For Compacting Access file automatically every time you close it:
Note that compacting of Access database does not occur here if you close a shared Access database while another user has it open.
- Open the Access project you want to compact automatically.
- Click Options on the Tools menu.
- Click General tab.
