LaCie Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive

LaCie Rugged All-Terrain is a triple interface bus-powered hard disk that offers the supreme speed of FireWire 800 along with FireWire 400. The drive comes cased in a scratch-protected aluminum case and protected by a bright orange rubberized coating. It is the exclusive creation of world-renown designer Neil Poulton. Measuring 90 x 25 x 145mm and weighing 250g, the Rugged Hard Drive is small enough to be easily carried around in a laptop bag. The drive is very fast, as it runs on a USB 2.0 connection and is plug and play.

LaCie states the maximum drop height to be 35 inches while in non-operating mode. This means if the drive is turned off and is knocked off from a low standing table, it most likely won’t be damaged. The rubberized coating absorbs the majority of minor bumps and scratches.

Limitations:

• No protection or casing for the connections ports, which are situated at the rear of the device. Some kind of cover or plug system would have been good to protect the drive while it is outdoors.
